Krysty and Reilly

During the summer, Kobi and I met Reilly and Krysty (owner of Urban Pawz) in our NYC FiDi neighborhood. We kept bumping into them on our walks and we would always end up chatting about “dog stuff”. She’s recently transplanted her dog walking and pet-sitting business, Urban Pawz, from the Midwest to NYC FiDi and we wanted you to know about it.

Krysty recently moved to NYC with her husband and dog Reilly. Despite having gone to law school, while they were living in Minnesota, Krysty decided not to pursue practicing law and instead follow her passion to open her own dog walking and pet-sitting business. Over three years, her pet care services business grew from 0 dogs to over 55 clients with nothing more than word-of-mouth. They also fostered of 17 dogs and adopted Reilly at the young age of 4 months old.

Urban PawzSince they moved to NYC (FiDi), they decided to expand Urban Pawz to offer pet care, services and products. Pet care includes walking, pet-sitting and relief breaks. It’s an alternative solution to “doggy day care”. Their pet services consist of grooming and in-home behavioral training – anything ranging from puppy training to adult behavioral problems. Regarding products, Krysty is in the process of launching her own frozen pet treat line.

Krysty’s love for animals began with her own family pets, Koko and Kookie. They were her siblings, albeit a bit furrier than friends’ siblings. Her approach to the animal-human relationship is to establish deep connections between her four-legged and two legged clients, while giving peace of mind to pet owners by establishing a profound level of trust. She strongly believes in continual education concerning all types of animals and their care, as well as staying informed on changing trends and animal theory. In her own words, “Running Urban Pawz is not a job for me: it is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to help further the understanding, and strengthen the relationships, between pets and their people.”

You can check out Urban Pawz on Facebook and their website.
